THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO DATA ANALYTICS; TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS

george morgan - Aug 2 - - Dev Community

Here are my thoughts on how any individual can crack it in the Data analysis field within a period of 6-9 months.
MONTH1.
Microsoft Excel
As a beginner you should begin by straightening out the basics by immersing yourself into learning how to use Excel correctly to format, sort data and making charts. Here's how you gonna learn

  1. Creating and Formatting worksheets
  2. Basic Functions:Avarage,Min/Max,Count 3.Advanced Functions:Vlookup,SumIf,CountIf,SumProduct,Concatenate
  3. Pivot Tables and Conditional Formating
  4. Building Gantt Chart/Financial statement.

You could also use websites like to practice your Excel skills.
Analytical skills to learn alongside these are:
Logical reasoning
Data Interpretation

MONTH 2
Storytelling with Data
For Visualization you can use any of
PowerBI
Tableau
Qlik Sense
These are used to analyze and understand Data in a visually appealing and interactive way
Start creating interactive dashboard.
For more of PowerBI check out the Official PowerBI community and an Ebook by Alberto Ferrari and Marco Russo.
Skills to learn alongside these are Communication Skills where you build a story around your analysis and share it with your stakeholders.

MONTH3N
SQL
Learn Domain specific language -SQL (for Database Querying)
Used to manage and manipulate Data stored in relational database
Here will also be an introduction to learning programming skills

MONTH4
Learn Exploratory Data analysis
-Univariate/Bivariate analysis
Learn how to structure your thinking in relation to Data

MONTH5
Learn Basic Statistics
1.Regression analysis
.Linear regression
.Logistic regression

  1. Descriptive statistics 3.Probability and Hypothesis testing Alongside these practice skills such as case studies and guessstimation

MONTH6
Programming Skills-Python
Use a general purpose programming language like Python/R
These language have a wide range of applications including Web development, data analysis and scientific computing which makes them versatile to learn.
You would also need to learn how to use Text editors and Notebooks like VScode and JupyterLab.
Familiarity with Python Libraries such as pandas and Numpy is also neccesary

NEXT 3 MONTHS
Use the next three months to build as many projects as possible
. Networking and attending local Data Community meetups
.Preparing for interviews through mock interviews or attending related job interviews
.Speaking about your work in various platforms including writing blogs on sites like Dev.to, medium, Hashnode e.t.c.
. Be available to learn by offering yourself for internship or mentorship to Seniors in the industry
. Finally apply to as many jobs as you can.
SUCCESS!!
